Altura Assists In Academic Decathlon

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A team of staffers from Altura Credit Union recently assisted at the 32nd annual Riverside Academic Decathlon, where students from 19 high schools competed for top academic recognition.

For the sixth consecutive year, a team of Altura employees served as proctors for the Super Quiz, the only portion of the event open to the public.  During the quiz, student teams answer multiple choice questions in a variety of topic areas. The Altura volunteers check answers for accuracy and keep score.

West Valley High School of Hemet won both the Super Quiz and the overall Academic Decathlon.  The winning team from West Valley High will go on to Sacramento to compete at the California Academic Decathlon later in March.

The theme for this year’s academic event was “New Alternatives in Energy.” About 200 students from grades nine through 12 participated in the decathlon, which is sponsored by the Riverside County Office of Education.
