RIVERSIDE, Calif.–Altura Credit Union recently participated in and sponsored the 5th Annual “Walk to End Homelessness.” Hundreds of people walked in a downtown park to raise $35,000 to fund city programs that help people transition from the streets to stable housing, and to fill gaps in state and federal funding.
“We want to be able to house the homeless. We have our shelter that provides overnight stays and offers connection with some services,” said Riverside City Councilman Andy Melendrez. “But we want to further enhance that, so the homeless are able to make that eventual transition into self-sufficiency. That’s the main focus of the city right now. Obviously, we need partners to do that. Altura has been a great partner with us as well as several others in our community.”
In addition to sponsoring the event, Altura employees staffed a booth at the starting line where they handed out water and a team of Altura employees also completed the 5K, raising funds for the cause.
“This event brings the community together to make a difference for those people who are struggling to get off the streets and into a home to call their own,” said Tina Covington, Altura vice president of Business Development. “Altura is proud to be part of this uplifting cause.”
