American 1 Supports Its Communities

JACKSON, Mich.–Despite challenges from COVID, American 1 CU is reporting that during 2021 it continued to make a positive impact on the communities it serves through sponsorships, donations, and volunteer efforts.

“At American 1, we are passionate and committed to being boldly generous and community-focused,” said Martha Fuerstenau, president/CEO of American 1. “Our executive team, board of directors and American 1 staff are proud to make a difference in the communities we’re part of.”

Through the American 1 Volunteer Time Off program, American 1 team members volunteered 123 hours to local non-profit organizations. And throughout the year, American 1 gave to over 100 organizations in Jackson, Lenawee, Hillsdale, Washtenaw, Calhoun, and Wayne counties with donations totaling $280,897.99.

Some of the most notable American 1 community initiatives throughout 2021 included:

  • $150,000 to the Jackson School of the Arts for the Capital Campaign project
  • $15,000 to the Jackson Area Pickleball Association
  • $13,000 to Hot Air Jubilee for the Presenting Sponsorship
  • $10,000 to the American Heart Association for a Heart Ball Sponsorship
  • $10,000 to the American 1 Scholarship Fund, which benefits recent high school graduates

Additionally, American 1 and TRUE Community partnered on the Hit ‘Em Fore Hospice Golf Benefit for the third year, which supports the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home. The two credit unions recorded a record-breaking fundraising event by donating more than $71,000 to the hospice home.

“I think we all can agree 2021 was another difficult year because of COVID-19, but the American 1 team was determined to find ways to continue to give back to our communities,” said Janelle Merritt, VP of Community Partnerships at American 1. “We once again look forward to making a difference in the communities we serve and remain committed to giving back, however and wherever we can.”
