BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–Avadian Credit Union employees devoted the week of October 15-19 to doing nice things for people in the communities the CU serves across Alabama.
Orange-clad Avadian employees took to the streets armed with gift cards in search of people to delight. Seventy-five employees participated in 42 separate Impact Week events. These included:
- Serving breakfast at the Jimmie Hale Mission
- Paying entrance into local high school football games
- Handing out water at community parks
- Paying for groceries at Wal-mart, Publix and Whole Foods
- Taking breakfast to sheriff and police departments
- Paying for gas fill-ups at Costco
"We sponsor events and chamber meetings often but we wanted to shake things up and do something a little bit different," said CEO Linda Cencula. “The people in our local communities are the reason we do what we do. Our goal with Impact Week was to show them how much they mean to us and how much we appreciate them.”
Avadian employee Kim Murdoch, described the smiles she received from one community member and her son.
“The gas fill-up event was so rewarding,” Murdoch said. “I could tell the young lady we approached was apprehensive about rolling her window down to speak with us. Once she found out what we were doing, she was in awe. She told her son there were still good people in the world, and because we were paying for their gas, he would be able to select a new book that night!”
