BROOMALL, Penn.– Mike Berenstain read from the latest Berenstain Bears’ book, The Berenstain Bears Visit the Credit Union, to an enthusiastic group of first and second graders at Grace Park Elementary School in Ridley Township, Penn. The renowned author/illustrator’s visit was orchestrated by the staff of Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union’s educational foundation and the book’s publisher Credit Union Network for Financial Literacy (CUNFL).
More than 100 children gathered in the school’s multi-purpose room for the unveiling of the new book. Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union (FMFCU) educators conducted an interactive financial literacy lesson with the children and taught an original rhyme based on the money management concept Save, Share, Spend, Earn, which is central to the Credit Unions’ Berenstain Bears Financial Literacy Program.
The Berenstain Bears Visit the Credit Union picks up where Trouble With Money leaves off—with the Bear cubs touring a credit union branch on a school field trip to experience the operations of a financial institution. “In the process, the money management concept Save, Share, Spend, Earn is reinforced,” Durante added. “It’s exactly what students experience on the field trips to our Credit Union.”
FMFCU commissioned Mike Berenstain to write The Berenstain Bears Visit the Credit Union in conjunction with the educational suite.
