Charter Oak Donates To Habitat For Humanity

WATERFORD, Conn.– Charter Oak Federal Credit Union continues to stay true to its philanthropic roots by donating multiple lots to Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut for affordable housing for local families.

Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut anticipates building two freestanding homes on the donated parcel of land located in Norwich. One family will reside in each home.

“Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut has the resources to develop this land parcel and to positively impact the Norwich community,” said Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We hope the families impacted by this donation will enjoy their new home, and create meaningful memories with their families.”

Families are selected based on the need for safe, decent, affordable housing; willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity; and the ability to pay back the no-profit loan. Anyone interested in becoming a Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut family must attend an Applicant Information Session in order to become pre-qualified. Sessions are held twice a year and are open to the general public.

Habitat’s program is unique and requires its homeowners to invest hundreds of hours into building their Habitat home. In addition to sweat equity, Habitat homeowners receive pre- and post-purchase counseling to boost their financial literacy.
