Charter Oak FCU Supports Rebuilding of Pavillion

WATERFORD, Conn. – Charter Oak Federal Credit Union donated $10,000 to the New London Rotary Foundation in support of rebuilding the Pavilion at Ocean Beach Park, which was destroyed by Super Storm Sandy in 2012.

“The rebuilt all-weather Pavilion will be an important asset to the entire community,” said Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s president and CEO.

In November 2016, the New London Rotary Foundation announced its plans to provide $150,000 as seed money for the rebuilding project in support of their 100th Anniversary.

“The Pavilion will create more seasonal and part-time employment opportunities for area residents,” said Jerome Fischer, Chairman of the New London Rotary Foundation’s Centennial Pavilion Committee. “This is a gift to the New London Community.”

Upon completion the Pavilion will be hurricane resilient and will require little maintenance. It will feature a hurricane resilient roof and skylights, treated trusses, rain curtains, new lighting, and handicapped accessible restrooms.

“Beach patrons will now be able to seek shelter should a sudden rain storm arise. Up to 200 people can be accommodated beneath the Pavilion,” said Fischer. “The Pavilion will also be able to accommodate fundraising events regardless of weather.”

Funding for the Pavilion project is part of the credit union’s Community Giving Program.
