Chartway Named Virginia’s Top Credit Union by Forbes for Fifth Straight Year

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.—Chartway Credit Union has been ranked the No. 1 credit union in Virginia on the 2026 edition of Forbes’ America’s Best-In-State Credit Unions list, marking the fifth consecutive year the institution has earned the national recognition.

The annual ranking, compiled by Forbes in partnership with Statista, evaluates credit unions based on consumer surveys, reviews and ratings. Chartway was among just 32 credit unions nationwide to earn Best-In-State recognition every year from 2022 through 2026, according to the organization.

“Earning this recognition five years in a row in addition to taking the top spot in Virginia this year is an honor we don’t take lightly,” said Brian Schools, president and CEO of Chartway Credit Union. “It speaks to the trust our members place in us every day, and to our team’s commitment to our purpose of helping individuals and families thrive.”

Chartway, which operates in Virginia, Texas and Utah, was one of only four Virginia credit unions named to the 2026 list and one of just two Virginia-headquartered credit unions to receive the distinction in each of the past five years. Forbes said rankings were based on an independent survey of 26,000 U.S. consumers, with survey responses accounting for 80% of each institution’s score and public reviews and ratings making up the remaining 20%.
