Chartway's 'We Promise' Foundation Raises a Whopping $945,000

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.–Chartway Federal Credit Union and its divisions of HeritageWest and SouthWest Community, along with the credit union’s We Promise Foundation, reported they raised a whopping $945,000 during 2015.

The funds went toward:

  • The Make-a-Wish Foundation of Greater Virginia – VA
  • The Make-a-Wish Foundation of Utah – UT
  • Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters – Virginia Beach, VA
  • St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children – Norfolk, VA
  • Roc Solid Foundation – Chesapeake, VA
  • Toby’s Dream Foundation – Virginia Beach, VA
  • EQUI-KIDS – Virginia Beach, VA
  • Families of Autistic Children of Tidewater – Virginia Beach, VA
  • The Matty Fund – Wakefield, RI
  • Ability Found – Salt Lake City, UT

“We are immensely grateful for our sponsors, our volunteers, and all our supporters who enabled our We Promise Foundation to raise more than $945,000 in 2015,” said Phil Richards, chairman of Chartway’s charitable arm. “As a result, we are honored to have the opportunity to give charitable grants to these 10 organizations that share our mission to give children battling life-threatening illnesses the gift of their dreams coming true.”

Since 1999, the Chartway Family of Credit Unions and its We Promise Foundation have raised more than $8,000,000 to bring smiles to the faces of thousands of children.

Above right, top, the success of the We Promise Foundation’s 10th Annual Diamonds in the Sky Gala was one of the premiere fundraisers for Chartway’s charitable arm. To celebrate the We Promise child champions that attended the event, We Promise volunteers welcomed children like Haniah by giving them high-fives as they stepped out of a limousine and traveled across a red carpet rolled out just for them.

Above, right, bottom: John Cafferty and Michael Antunes enjoyed meeting We Promise kid heroes like Kierra at the 10th Annual Diamonds in the Sky Gala. Famous for the voice behind the 1983 hit “Eddie and the Cruisers,” John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band reached Top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart and produced a #7 single “On the Dark Side” on the Billboard Hot 100.The band also contributed to the motion picture soundtrack for “Cobra,” starring Sylvester Stallone.

Below, bottom, LPGA Pro Jill McGill teed off with 10 We Promise children during the 17th Annual Charity Golf Classic in Virginia Beach, Va. Jill turned pro in 1994 and earned her PGA card in 1996. She has achieved what only a handful of women golfers ever have: she won both the US Women’s Amateur Championship and the US Women’s Public Links Championship – the two most prestigious amateur titles in golf. Jill has also been an on-course commentator for the Golf Channel, ABC, TNT, and ESPN.
