Community 1 Co-op Supports Laundry Program

JACKSON, Mich.– Community 1 Cooperative, the overarching organization of American 1 Credit Union, presented a check for $2,000 to the Jackson Public Schools Laundry Program.

The JPS Laundry Program aims to provide clean clothing to students and athletic teams, teach valuable life skills, and give confidence to learn in the classroom.

“Since the inception of the JPS Laundry Program in 2019, the program has helped students gain confidence to learn in the classroom,” said Angella Arnold, board chair of the Community 1 Cooperative. “Because this program provides peace of mind to students, it was a unanimous decision among our board of directors to support this program for the 2023-2024 school year.”

Established as the Jackson Co-Op Services in 1945, the now-named Community 1 Cooperative is the overarching organization of American 1 Credit Union. In 1950 the Co-Op leaders agreed that starting a local credit union would help to meet the financial needs of regular, everyday members in the community. Thus, American 1 noted it began as the Jackson Co-Op Federal Credit Union.

Today, the Community 1 Cooperative is a community co-op that provides discounts and services to its members, including banner printing, marketing services, Tax Service discounts, TruStage Insurance discounts, and American 1 Credit Union membership.

The mission of the Community 1 Cooperative is "to enhance the communities we serve through quality, cost-effective services for individuals, families, non-profit organizations, and businesses." Today, the Community 1 Cooperative serves more than 151,000 members and is run by a volunteer board of directors.
