GOLDEN, Colo.–– Coors Credit Union has announced the winners of its 2015 scholarships at its 2015 Annual Meeting here. This year, the credit union awarded three $2,000 scholarships for the 2015-16 school year to Ashley Hewett of Thornton; Marisa Markovich of Golden; and Camilla Belfon of Denver.
According to Tracie Wilcox, CEO of Coors Credit Union, the credit union strives to help shape a bright financial future for young adults, and scholarships are awarded to members of the credit union and community who demonstrate a caring spirit and appreciation for others.
“The high caliber of all the applicants this year made the selection process difficult, and they were all deserving,” said Wilcox. “The achievements of our selected winners, however, are exemplary.”
Ashley Hewett is currently a junior at Metropolitan State University of Denver, pursuing a major in Speech Language Hearing Sciences and a minor in Special Education. Ashley currently works with Goldstar Learning Options, a company that offers support to individuals and families affected by developmental disabilities.
Marisa Markovich is a graduate of Golden High School. She was a key player in the creation of the school’s outreach program with Pleasant View Elementary School, which, carried out through the National Honor Society, offers services to help children with their studies and provides volunteers for events. Passionate about working toward curing and relieving diseases and disabilities, Marisa is interested in pursuing a biomedical or biological engineering degree so she may help improve living conditions for people all over the world, Coors CU said.
Camilla Belfon is pursuing a PhD jointly at the University of Denver and the Iliff School of Theology. An ordained minister, Camilla’s doctoral project seeks to uncover the ethical disconnect of working with the hungry, homeless and marginalized, while promoting the good life. In addition to pursuing a PhD on a full-time basis, Camilla oversees the Food Bank at the Potter’s House Church of Denver. She is the mother of four children, a seven-year-old son, a four-year-old daughter, and one-year-old twins.
“We are extremely pleased to award these extraordinary women scholarships to help them pursue their commendable personal and academic goals,” said Wilcox.
