PLANO, Texas – The Cornerstone Foundation has contributed $5,000 to the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, the charitable and engagement arm of the World Council of Credit Unions, for the Ukrainian Credit Union Displacement Fund.
The Ukrainian Credit Union Displacement Fund was created to provide financial support to help ease short- and long-term impacts and challenges faced by Ukraine’s credit union system along with its employees and members.
The Cornerstone Foundation noted it is just one of the nearly 20 organizations from the credit union industry that has donated or pledged contributions to the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions for the Ukrainian Credit Union Displacement Fund. The total of all donations made to the displacement fund to date stands at just over $480,000.
“The Cornerstone Foundation has made a critical gift to the Ukrainian Credit Union Displacement Fund to help sustain credit union employees and members who are most in need during this time of crisis,” said Cornerstone Foundation Executive Director Courtney Moran. “We are committed to our cooperative mission of ‘people helping people’ and empowering credit unions even from thousands of miles away.”
WFCU disbursed the first $50,000 from its Ukrainian Credit Union Displacement Fund to the Podolsk Regional Development Agency (PARD), a Ukrainian non-governmental organization that is providing humanitarian assistance to hundreds of refugees from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mariupol, Kherson, Melitopol, and other cities who are seeking refuge in the Vinnytsia region of western Ukraine.
