ONTARIO, Calif.--Credit unions across California and the globe successfully celebrated International Credit Union Day on Oct. 16, marking the annual event with strong community turnout and a focus on the theme “Cooperation for a Prosperous World.”
The day served as a reminder of the financial cooperative movement’s commitment to empowering individuals and fostering stronger, more stable communities worldwide.
Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. This year’s celebration brought together credit union members, staff, local supporters and officials to reflect on the positive impact of financial cooperatives and reaffirm their commitment to cooperative principles.
Across California, credit unions demonstrated the spirit of this year’s theme by successfully hosting community appreciation events. These festivities provided an invaluable opportunity for community members and local officials to learn about the unique benefits of credit union membership, access financial literacy resources, and witness the credit union difference.
The goal — to foster deeper relationships between credit unions, local policymakers, and the communities they serve — was achieved through festivities across nine locations statewide. In partnership with California’s Credit Unions, several local credit unions hosted celebrations to showcase this commitment.
Celebrations took place at the following nine credit unions, attracting local turnout and support from the communities they serve:
- California Credit Union (San Diego, CA).
- Chaffey Federal Credit Union (Rancho Cucamonga, CA).
- Golden 1 (Sacramento, CA).
- Kinecta (El Segundo/Manhattan Beach, CA).
- Mocse Credit Union (Modesto, CA).
- Pacific Service Credit Union (Concord, CA).
- SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union (Tustin, CA).
- Valley First Credit Union (Fresno, CA).
- Wescom Financial (Pasadena, CA).
International Credit Union Day, led by World Council of Credit Unions, honored the pioneers and volunteers who have built the movement. The day reinforced the core mission of credit unions to provide affordable loans, encourage savings, and promote financial education for more than 411 million members across 104 countries, including more than 14.4 million in California.
“The energy we saw amplified our cooperative movement’s purpose,” said Scott Simpson, President and CEO of California’s Credit Unions. “Cooperation for a prosperous world is achieved through credit unions’ dedication to putting members first. It’s what drives our global prosperity today, and the outreach we championed on October 16 is a testament to this member-centric foundation. We want to thank every advocate and member who supported International Credit Union Day this year.”
