DCECU Staff Help Clean Freeway

MIDLAND, Mich.–Following a busy summer of travel on Michigan’s highways, volunteers from Dow Chemical Employees CU recently spent part of an afternoon beautifying several miles of a Midland County freeway.

For three hours on the afternoon, a group of 14 DCECU employees cleared litter from both shoulders of an approximately three-mile stretch of US-10 between the Stark Road and Eastman Road exits through the Adopt-A-Highway program. The crew filled 40 bags with trash and also removed the remains of a small structure that had fallen from a trailer during transport.

“Community service is a natural extension of the service we provide to our members on a daily basis. Supporting projects like this contributes to the pride we have in the communities where we live and work,” said Vice-President of Lending Ken Roznowski.

“I enjoy getting out in the community and helping, and the fact that DCECU supports these activities and allows us to participate during work time is beneficial,” said Consumer Centralized Lending Manager Juli Lacina. “My favorite part of this activity was the satisfaction of having cleaned up an area, looking back on the area we worked and seeing the bags of items we were able to clear from the side of the road.”

Weather permitting, DCECU employees typically conduct Adopt-A-Highway cleanups on US-10 in both early spring and early fall.
