Education First CU Supports Southeast Food Bank

BEAUMONT, Texas–  Education First Federal Credit Union (EFFCU) employees presented a check for $4,700 to the Southeast Texas Food Bank in celebration of Giving Tuesday.

EFFCU raised the funds for the donation through Blue Jean Fridays, a voluntary program that allows its employees to wear blue jeans each week on Friday in exchange for a small donation to the fund.  At the end of the calendar year, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization in the community is selected as the recipient of the donation.  In 2015, EFFCU donated $3,000 to Buckner Children’s Village.

Alongside the Blue Jean Fridays program, EFFCU employees are also provided with an opportunity to donate their time to various non-profit organizations in the community through the credit union’s Volunteer Investment Program (VIP).  The employees who participate in this program volunteer their own time away from work to qualifying organizations in the Southeast Texas community.  This year, VIP participants have donated almost 670 hours to area organizations.

“Over the last eighteen months, EFFCU volunteers have worked in the Southeast Texas Food Bank warehouse numerous times.  Our VIPs have such a great time working and feel so fulfilled afterward that it was an easy decision to designate the Food Bank as the recipient of the funds raised through the Blue Jean Fridays program this year,” said Christy Hardt, Director of Community Relations for EFFCU.
