GREENBELT, Md.–Educational Systems FCU has donated more than 7,500 backpacks filled with school supplies to middle school students in eight local school systems. The credit union has supported the initiative for the past five years. This year, the donations were made through the Credit Union's sponsorship of the Support Education Foundation, Inc., it said.
In 2017, the Support Education Foundation was established by Educational Systems FCU to help fulfill their core purpose of serving the education community. The Foundation is named after the credit union's mantra of “Support Education.” It's a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to raising funds for student scholarships, professional development awards and other initiatives to help students including the backpack program.
"Educational Systems FCU is a proud sponsor of the Support Education Foundation," stated Chris Conway, president/CEO of Educational Systems FCU. "The backpacks for middle school students program is one of the many ways we help make a difference in the education community."
Each backpack contained a 100-sheet pack of college-ruled paper, a pack of six ballpoint pens, a highlighter and a 12-inch ruler. Students received the backpacks at the back-to-school fairs held in August as well as through the local student service centers.
