DAYTON, Ohio–The Firefighters & Company FCU is donating CO detectors to the local fire departments in their community for the seventh year in a row.
The credit union, which serves Montgomery, Miami and Greene counties, will be donating to Dayton, Trotwood, Vandalia, Butler Township, Miami Valley Fire District, Tipp City, Troy and New Lebanon fire departments this month.
A total of 501 detectors will go out to the local departments this year, as more than 3,000 detectors have been donated since the program was established in 2016. The CO detector initiative started as a way to give back a part of the funds that the credit union collects for a skip-a-pay program their members participate in every year, the credit union said.
“The total amount donated in dollars for the CO detectors over the last seven years is over $42,000,” stated F&FCFCU.
The credit union said it has been reaching out to the fire departments to supply them with the detectors to fulfill the need in their community.
“Some of the fire departments have shared stories about calls they have responded to, that a CO detector we may have donated possibly helped saved a life,” said Shannon O’Neill, marketing manager for the credit union. “You don’t think that this donation can have that kind of an impact, but the departments tell me that it has.”
