Firefighters & Company Federal Credit Union Donates CO Detectors For 11 Years In A Row

DAYTON, Ohio— Firefighters & Company Federal Credit Union said it is donating another 560 carbon monoxide detectors to local fire departments, marking the 11th consecutive year of the program.

The credit union said the latest donation brings its total over the life of the effort to approximately 6,000 detectors, valued at nearly $85,000.

Departments in Montgomery, Miami and Greene counties are among those receiving the detectors, with deliveries scheduled over the next several weeks. Fire departments in Dayton, Trotwood, Harrison Township, Vandalia, Bellbrook, Butler Township, West Carrollton, Farmersville and Sugarcreek are among those included.

The credit union said the detector purchases are funded in part through its annual holiday skip-a-payment program, which runs in December and January and allows members to defer loan payments during the holiday season.

For each skip-a-payment fee collected, the credit union said roughly half is directed toward the purchase of carbon monoxide detectors for local fire departments to distribute in their communities.

“It is nice to be able to help all sizes of fire departments,” Shannon O’Neill, marketing manager for Firefighters & Company Federal Credit Union, said in a statement. “Some departments may not have other resources to get the CO detectors for their residents.”
