BURNSVILLE, Minn.–Firefly Credit Union has partnered with local radio station, Go 96.3, to provide accessible financial education to listeners through a variety of efforts in-studio and across the Twin Cities metro at community events.
Firefly’s Community Engagement and Education Specialist, Geoff Bullock, has more than a decade of experience teaching individuals in the Twin Cities about personal finance topics, the credit union said. With this knowledge, he has joined forces with Go 96.3’s morning show for a segment called Money Monday. The weekly segments are short – between three and ten minutes – and cover a variety of financial topics including credit card debt, identity theft, finding a loan, and establishing an emergency savings fund.
“This is financial advice for you, not your rich uncle,” said Bullock, who co-hosts each Money Monday segment with morning show DJs Ben, Dana and Giselle. “We want to get the word out about credit unions and their advantages as well as how consumers can make smart decisions with their personal finances.”
Past segments and supplemental materials are available at fireflycu.org/moneymonday.
The credit union has also used its new partnership with Go 96.3 to connect with members of the communities through local events including the 2018 Uptown Art Fair and the radio station’s GoShow concert series. At the Uptown Art Fair, credit union employees volunteered their time in the event’s pARTy Plaza to hand out chalk activities to booth visitors and encourage them to celebrate the unique atmosphere of the event by participating in an interactive 3D street art display.
Firefly’s presence at the GoShow series is twofold. The credit union’s members can be entered to win tickets by visiting a branch and those in attendance can benefit by showing their Firefly debit or credit card to skip the line. Firefly representatives, including Bullock, also have had a presence at the events to answer attendees’ financial questions and talk about the credit union advantage.
