Forest Area FCU Provides Funds to Michael's Place

TRAVERSE CITY/FIFE LAKE, Mich.– Forest Area Federal Credit Union has presented a Community Grant Award Check in the amount of $2,500 to Michael’s Place

“This grant will support the health and well-being of children, teens and adults in our community who are grieving the death of a loved one.  The foundation of Michael’s Place is built on peer to peer support.  It is the need that we all have to know that others have experienced a similar situation and that we are not alone.  The grief support groups at Michael’s place are invaluable.  Through this shared journey, new children, teens and adults hear from others, who are further along, understand their loss, and help them come to the realization that the experience is survivable.  Groups also give each member a purpose as each one is able to share what has helped or hurt and guide others along the way.  It is in finding purpose and identifying with others that healthy healing can begin,” read the Michael’s Place Community Grant application.

Forest Area Federal Credit Union’s Community Grant Program is available to continue support of our communities in a way that could enhance the lives of our membership. The Community Grant Program will consider projects for funding such as those that contribute to improvements that support arts and culture, basic human needs, the local environment, health and safety improvement projects, recreation and support for seniors and youth, the credit union said. Community non-profit organizations or government units who sponsor public projects that are located in Forest Area Federal Credit Union’s Field of Membership (Portions of Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Wexford and Antrim Counties) can apply.

Forest Area Federal Credit Union CEO Robert Raden was present at Michael’s Place to present them with the check for $2500.  “Credit Unions are built on a principle of ‘People helping People’.  We are proud to be able to make this award and to be able to help in even a small way those that are going through one of the most difficult times in their lives,” said Raden.
