Freedom Federal Supports Educators

BEL AIR, Md. – Freedom Federal Credit Union has named Loretta Richardson, a teacher at George D. Lisby Elementary School in Aberdeen, Md., as the winner of the 2015 Annual $1,000 Golden Apple Plus Educator Award.

“Ms. Richardson is a dedicated educator having taught in Harford County for 47 years,” the credit union said. “ Her winning entry called for a new playground area at the school specifically for the Pre-K children under age 5. The funds will be used to purchase new equipment in an effort to help get the children engaged in physical activity to improve their overall health, while developing the child to become a productive, successful and healthy citizen of Harford County.”

In addition to Richardson’s essay, two additional submissions by Jimmy Grant and Alisa Janiski were awarded $250 runner-up prizes.

“Freedom is proud of the opportunity to recognize the members of the education community, both teachers and support staff, who are educating the youth of our community and preparing the leaders of tomorrow,” said Freedom FCU CEO Rose Ann Lambert. “The educators and Freedom share a common mission, that of supporting the advancement of the Harford County community.”

Separately, in its continued support of the Harford County Public Schools, Freedom FCU recently completed its annual Patriot Program sponsorships. During the 2014/2015 school year, Freedom increased its support to a total of 19 elementary schools, providing incentives to students who completed the Patriot Program requirements.

The Patriot Program is a voluntary program that helps students learn about their country, patriotism, national and state geography, and government, while developing a sense of appreciation for American history.  Freedom provides the 19 schools with incentive awards of a drawstring backpack for students who successfully complete the program requirements for their individual grade level. This year’s donations supported nearly 5,000 students.
