BANNOCKBURN, Ill.–Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU) and its Foundation for Financial Empowerment celebrated CU Kind Day on the Columbus Day/Indigenous People’s Day holiday by giving of their time in the community.
The efforts bring to more than 3,000 the number of hours that GLCU employees have donated in the community.
“More than 80% of GLCU employees selflessly donated their time to 100 local organizations that work to directly improve their communities,” said Great Lakes CU. “Team members spent those hours providing financial education in schools, assisting with community cleanup projects, reading to children, and distributing food and clothing to those in need. These efforts align with GLCU's core mission to financially empower members while positively impacting the communities in which GLCU operates.”
“As part of our mission of banking for a greater good, financial empowerment is one of our core values,” said Steve Bugg, president and CEO of GLCU. “To see so many of our team members bring that mission to life by giving their time and energy to our communities shows how committed they are to that mission, and I am grateful for their contributions.”
The event to push GLCU over the 3,000 volunteer hours benchmark was held on CU Kind Day, where GLCU’s Great Wave volunteers proudly partnered with Bernie's Book Bank of Lake Bluff to sort books for local families in need, the credit union said.
