GLCU Hosts Networking Event for Nonprofit

BANNOCKBURN, Ill.–Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU) held a networking event to build awareness for the GLCU Foundation for Financial Empowerment, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The after-hours occasion, held at GLCU’s corporate headquarters, was aimed at creating partnerships with local community members to further enable their financial literacy programs for all ages and backgrounds, the credit union said.

The GLCU Foundation for Financial Empowerment emphasizes the inclusivity and accessibility of financial education regardless of socio-economic status. Specifically, the foundation offers several programs, including financial literacy initiatives geared toward youth; the “Great Wave” volunteer program, which provides local nonprofits with volunteer support; and HUD-Approved Housing and Financial Counseling Services which are available free of charge.

“We’re embarking on a mission to foster financial well-being among members, employees, and the larger communities we serve,” said Matthew Rizzie, executive director at the GLCU Foundation for Financial Empowerment. “Thanks to the support of the folks who joined us, we’ll be able to continue to offer the essential programs and initiatives we provide that empower our local communities.”

The foundation also offers direct support to local communities through donations, grants, sponsorships, and scholarships.

“The goal of this event was to introduce the Foundation to community partners and share the scope of the Foundation’s impact,” stated Rizzie. “As an organization, we’re committed to making financial well-being accessible to the whole  community, and the partnerships we made last night will help us continue to reach our educational goals in both the short and long terms.”
