AUBURN HILLS, Mich.–An initiative launched in November by Genisys Credit Union and its employees raised $12,230 for Lighthouse’s annual Thanks & Giving Campaign, which allowed it to purchase turkeys for all the families they serve to have a Thanksgiving dinner this year.
“I am forever moved by and grateful for the team at Genisys for coming together to raise funds to support our community partners,” said Jackie Buchanan, president & CEO of Genisys Credit Union. “Working with agencies like Lighthouse allows us to be part of an interconnected solution to create an environment for community members who need the support.”
The team at Genisys raised the funds through an employee match program to cover the cost of turkeys which was doubled by Meijer as part of its Simply Give program, for a grand total of 2,445 turkeys. Meijer started their Simply Give program in 2008 to help local food pantries fulfill their mission of feeding those struggling with food insecurity.
"Ensuring every family in our community is able to celebrate with a complete Thanksgiving meal is important to Lighthouse and our supporters,” said Ryan Hertz, Lighthouse President & CEO. “Genisys Credit Union has been our key partner in this effort for a long time now, and this year is no different. We are so grateful for the Genisys team’s generous donations, providing more than 2,000 turkeys for our food boxes.”
The credit union said it has been proud to make a year-to-date contribution of more than $100,000 to Lighthouse in order to support their mission of responding to poverty by building communities that work to end homelessness and helping people move from crisis towards self-sufficiency.
“It is a mission of Genisys to be the community support and give back to the areas they serve through time and resources for a long-lasting impact of community wellness and betterment,” the credit union said.
