BANNOCKBURN, Ill.– Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU) has adopted a new friend, Myrtle the Turtle! Myrtle is part of Lake County Forest Preserves’ Blanding’s Turtle Recovery Program. As a corporate sponsor, GLCU said it will receive regular status updates on Myrtle the Turtle’s overall health.
“One of GLCU’s core beliefs is to be knowledgeable and respectful, not only to members but in every aspect, including the environment,” the credit union said. “Knowing the Lake County Forest Preserves makes the environment and surrounding communities their top priority is why GLCU is so excited for this partnership.”
The Blanding’s Turtle Recovery Program started after Illinois listed the Blanding’s turtles as endangered in 2009. The Lake County Forest Preserves could not stand by and watch these turtles disappear, so they took action. Since then, the recovery program has implemented several strategies to help the turtles make a strong comeback, the credit union explained.
