BANNOCKBURN, Ill.–Employees from Great Lakes Credit Union’s Chicago office surprised their charismatic security guard, Brenda Ruiz, with an Edible Arrangement bouquet and a $100 Visa gift card. GLCU said that for several years Ruiz has been a beloved security guard for the AT&T building in which GLCU is located.
“Ever since we moved into this building Brenda has been a big promoter of the credit union,” said Marilyn Kolodziej, GLCU’s Chicago Branch Manager “Not only is she a member, but she looks out for us too. If she hears something coming from our lobby area that sounds suspicious to her she will give us a call to make sure everything is OK. It felt good to let her know how much we appreciate her.”
All year long employees at GLCU branches are performing various acts of kindness.

Separately, employees from GLCU’s Round Lake Beach location donated more than 700 school supply items to the students of Pleviak Elementary School. All items were distributed amongst teachers and their classrooms to be used as needed.
Griselda Guadarrama, GLCU’s Gurnee Branch Manager, and her team personally delivered the school supply items to Pleviak Elementary School’s kindergarten teachers and their students. When asked about this act of kindness, Guadarrama noted, “Our Round Lake Beach team enjoyed seeing all the little smiling faces and grateful teachers! It was really something special. Giving is not just about making a donation, it’s about making a difference”
