BANNOCKBURN, Ill.––Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU) wrapped up 2015 having served its local communities in a big way. GLCU staff, board members, senior management and members joined together by sponsoring, participating and volunteering at community events throughout the year.
GLCU said it also maintained its strong commitment to youth financial literacy. Throughout 2015, GLCU conducted 32 financial education events impacting 3,176 local students through its budget simulation program for high school students called “Mad City Money.”
For kids and parents, GLCU organized two Child Safety Fairs where parents received identity toolkits and the opportunity to have their kids fingerprinted by police department volunteers. Parents and children were educated by firefighters and emergency technicians about the responsibilities inside and outside fire trucks and ambulances.
For the seventh year in a row, GLCU conducted a warm clothing drive that culminated with the credit union’s sponsoring and serving of the “Giving Dinner” – a warm holiday buffet for approximately 100 low-income and homeless individuals who were encouraged to attend by local missions and shelters.
“In 2015 our GLCU family grew exponentially and so did our efforts within each of the communities we serve,” said Vikki Kaiser, President/CEO. “We are proud and excited to continue growing, connecting, and building upon relationships with our members in those communities.”
During the year, GLCU also partnered with numerous community organizations either providing volunteers or being an event sponsor. Some of those organizations and events included Gurnee Park District, Children’s Miracle Network Torch Relay 5k in Chicago, Bolingbrook Park District, Nostalgia Days in Zion, Antioch Theatre Grand Reopening, Willow Springs Car Show, Free Shred Day in Naperville, Community Days in North Chicago, Country Club Hills Park District, Ride for Elders in Waukegan, McHenry Patriot Run, and the Moving Wall in Round Lake Beach.
