PITTSFIELD, Mass.— With food insecurity continuing to climb, Greylock Federal Credit Union said it has made a special $50,000 donation to support local food pantries and meal programs across Berkshire County.
The funding will be distributed among Berkshire Bounty, Berkshire Food Project, Berkshire Community College’s Campus Cupboard, Berkshire Dream Center, People’s Pantry and Pittsfield Community Food Pantry, the credit union said.
Greylock said the donation is intended to help ease pressure on organizations facing growing demand for food assistance. Jamie Moncecchi, senior vice president and chief administrative officer, said the credit union’s board and senior leaders approved the contribution in recognition that food is a basic need and that the funding is intended to help more families and individuals access critical resources.
The latest contribution follows Greylock’s recent allocation of $100,000 to 10 nonprofit community partners focused on a range of human services, underscoring the credit union’s broader push to support community-based organizations during a period of rising need.
Several of the organizations supported by the new donation focus on distributing rescued, locally sourced and donated food, while others provide hot meals, grab-and-go options and soup kitchen services. Berkshire Dream Center Founder and Executive Director Katelynn Miner said the gift arrived at a critical time as demand rises across the Morningside community and Berkshire County, calling Greylock’s support “foundational” to the organization’s work.
