HUECU Employees Volunteer with Food Program

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— Harvard University Employees Credit Union (HUECU) employees volunteered with Food for Free’s Just Eats Grocery Box program.

Packing fresh, healthy food items to be distributed all over the greater Boston area, the boxes werefilled with vegetable and side dish options for a healthy and filling Thanksgiving meal.

Food for Free is dedicated to minimizing food insecurity and poor nutrition for the under-servedmembers of the Greater Boston area community both in the short and long term. By finding new ways to distribute food that would otherwise be discarded, they not only reduce food waste but also bring uscloser to making sure all members of the community have tastier and nutritious food options, the credit union said.

One of the Just Eats Grocery Box program’s mission is to help address the rising hunger problem in the Boston area, following the rise in food costs and unemployment caused by the pandemic. Though itoriginally distributed 500 boxes of food per week, it has now increased its output to roughly 3,000weekly. The program provides these boxes to schools, food pantries, housing facilities in Boston,Cambridge, Revere, and Somerville to name a few.
