The funds, provided by the Armed Forces Financial Network, match the Board Memorial Award presented to the group by the credit union last fall. This is the eleventh straight year the AFFN’s Matching Grant Program has added value to Hanscom FCU’s award, which recognizes volunteer groups that serve Hanscom FCU’s membership base.  The Civilian Welfare Fund organizes a variety of activities for both military and civilian personnel at the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center, boosting morale through social events it is committed to holding on at least a monthly basis.

Separately, students from the Air Force JROTC programs at Lowell and Bedford (Mass.) High Schools attended a CU4 Reality fair sponsored by Hanscom FCU and staffed by volunteers from the credit union and the community.

CU4 Reality takes students through a simulated budgeting exercise. Each is assigned a monthly salary and a list of fixed, variable, and optional expenses. Some also were required to make student loan payments or carry special insurance, depending on the career they chose
