Heritage Trust Sponsors March of Dimes Walk, Opening New School Branch

CHARLESTON, S.C.-- As Signature Sponsor for the 2016 March of Dimes March for Babies Walk event, Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union donated more than $17,000 to the local charity.

The credit union hosted various internal and community fundraisers throughout the campaign season including bake sales, enter-to-win opportunities, employee luncheons and more. Employees and members also helped the organization to reach their goal through personal donations. In addition to monetary support for this noteworthy endeavor, these efforts also helped build awareness and foster advocacy throughout the local community.

Heritage Trust’s President/CEO, James H. McDaniel Sr., served as the 2016 March for Babies Executive Leadership Committee Chair in Charleston. As Chair, McDaniel committed to helping reach the event goal of $450,000. All funds raised support March of Dimes research and development initiatives as well as community programs all designed to help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies to begin healthy lives.

“March of Dimes is very close to my heart and I am honored to have the support of all the employees at Heritage Trust. Their continuing support along with our members, local businesses and families, are one of the reasons we are able to work for stronger, healthier babies in our community and across the state,” commented James H. McDaniel Sr., Heritage Trust President/CEO. “I am truly overwhelmed by the Heritage Trust team spirit and generosity for such a valued event.”

Separately, Heritage Trust FCU and Berkeley County School District formally signed an agreement to open another Student Run Credit Union at Cane Bay High School.   The success of the Goose Creek High School Student Branch, which opened last August in Berkeley County,  has given Heritage Trust the opportunity to pursue another high school in the county.  Cane Bay principal, Dr. Lee Westbury, was instrumental in making her school the choice for the 2016-2017 school year.

“We continue to dedicate time to being an advocate for financial literacy and help prepare students for their future by learning the correct way to manage their finances ,” said McDaniel.

Archie Franchini, Berkeley County School District Deputy Superintendent was very enthusiastic about Berkeley County adding a second Student Run Branch in their district, Cane Bay High School.  “We have seen the success of working with Heritage Trust and are very excited to see this partnership continue to grow,” stated Mr. Franchini.
