MISSOULA, Mont.–Horizon Credit Union closed all locations at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 19 for a company-wide community service event, “Go. Give. Grow.” More than 225 employees volunteered for a total of over 675 hours of volunteer time at 13 local nonprofits in Montana, Washington and Idaho.
This first ever company-wide community service event brought Horizon employees, leaders and board members together to get out and contribute to the community and fight hunger as a team – the “HZCU Go-Givers.”
"In every region we serve, there are people who go hungry,” said Horizon CEO, Jeff Adams. “In fact, in the United States, one-out-of-six people face hunger, not knowing where their next meal will come from or how they will provide a nutritious meal for their family."
Horizon's community outreach efforts are focused on three pillars - health, hunger and education. For “Go. Give. Grow.” the HZCU Go-Givers made an impact in the fight against hunger. The Horizon executive leadership team visited the various locations to deliver a $1,000 donation to each of the 13 “Go. Give. Grow.” non-profit volunteer sites.
In Montana, these sites were Action Inc in Butte, and Montana Food Bank Network.
Horizon team members enjoy and value the volunteer efforts they participate in, with many feeling that these events strengthen the organization and give them a chance to be helpful members of their own communities.
Volunteering and contributing to the community is an integral part of Horizon's mission, the credit union said. Each employee is given up to 24 hours of paid volunteer time to use during work hours each year. Many employees also volunteer outside of work hours on their own time. Last year, Horizon said its employees volunteered more than 4,700 hours in the areas they serve across Montana, Washington and Idaho.
