BILOXI, Miss. —Through Keesler FCU’s Bright Futures program, more than 20,000 public school kindergartners in Mississippi and Louisiana will start the 2024-25 school year with needed school supplies.
The Bright Futures program is distributing school supplies to kindergarten students. in 27 school districts in Coastal Mississippi, Hattiesburg, Jackson Metro and Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes in Southeast Louisiana.
Keesler Federal began the program in 2019, and now six years later, said it it will have provided supplies to more than 70,000 public school kindergarteners - including this year’s distribution.
“Keesler Federal team members helped with the distributions by loading thousands of boxes into school vehicles at designated pickup locations,” the credit union said.
It added the supplies include a drawstring bag with blunt scissors, markers, crayons, tissues, construction paper, pencils, pocket folders, highlighters, glue sticks, and erasers. Each district will determine when to distribute supplies to their students.
“Purchasing school supplies can be a burden on family budgets,” President and CEO Andy Swoger said in a statement. “We are hopeful that this effort will benefit families as well as help kindergartners get off to a successful start in school. Keesler Federal strongly believes in supporting the communities we serve, and Bright Futures certainly is one of our most important and largest giveback programs.”
