LONG BEACH, Calif.—More than 100 employees of LBS Financial Credit Union employees, friends and family members volunteered more than 200 combined hours of their time to clean up a portion of the Long Beach coastline at several beach cleanups in 2016.
LBS Financial has actively participated in the City’s Adopt-a-Beach program since 2011, adopting the popular stretch of coastline between 14th Place and 19th Place off of Ocean Boulevard. When adopting the beach, cleaning does not just take place on the sand but also in the parking lot and bike paths. The CU said it is committed to cleaning up the beach a minimum of three times per year. The LBS Financial team cleaned the beach in March, May and July as part of their commitment to give back to the communities they serve.
“Long Beach and the surrounding communities take great pride in their beaches. LBS Financial focuses on adding value to our local neighborhoods and the Adopt-a-Beach program is a perfect match for us to help improve the environment where our members and employees live and work,” said Jeffrey Napper, president and CEO of LBS Financial.
Volunteers who attended the most recent beach cleanup commented that the sand was littered with Styrofoam, cigarette butts and bottle caps. These items are detrimental to the safety of wild life and beach goers in the area.
