BRIGHTON, Mich.–As part of its annual Home Loan Giveback program, Lake Trust Credit Union said its members made it possible for the credit union to donate $37,518 to Haven Homes of Detroit — a nonprofit organization providing essential services and secure housing to women who have escaped human trafficking or experienced commercial sexual exploitation.
The funds from the donation will help Haven Homes work toward achieving its mission and expand its offerings for those in need.
Aaron Short, executive director of Haven Homes, noted the donation will allow it to:
- Provide direct assistance to residents' everyday needs such as transportation to and from therapy, school, and work
- Cover the cost of additional training and education for their staff – ensuring they can adequately serve residents
- Further the renovation of the second home they recently purchased, growing their capacity for residents
Lake Trust said it raises funds for organizations like Haven Home each year through its Home Loan Giveback program. The credit union donates $100 for every mortgage or refinance application closed and $50 for every time a member closes on a home equity loan during the program period.
To date, Lake Trust has donated more than $260,000 to 21 nonprofits in Michiganthrough the program thanks to support from its members.
