ATASCADERO, Calif.–A.R. “Pete” Reed, member of the CoastHills Credit Union board of directors from 2006 until 2014, passed away on August 10, 2015, in Atascadero, Calif., after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 72.
Mr. Reed joined the CoastHills board through a merger with Atascadero Federal Credit Union (AFCU) in November 2006 and became an emeritus board member in 2014. Prior to the merger, he served on the AFCU board beginning in 1981, including two turns as Chairman.
"Pete’s leadership and expertise were instrumental in assuring the merger’s smooth transition,” said Hugh Rafferty, current Chair of the CoastHills board of directors, “and his contributions to CoastHills over the past decade were crucial in stimulating our growth and expansion throughout the Central Coast.”
Mr. Reed was a self-employed accountant, having established his bookkeeping and tax services firm in Atascadero in 1976. Prior to that, he attended Santa Barbara City College and transferred to Cal Poly, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1970.
A Rotarian, Mr. Reed served as the President of the Rotary Club of Atascadero in 1993-94 and also volunteered with the Colony Days Committee, Atascadero Golf Club and Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cynthia, and two children.
