BALTIMORE–MECU, Baltimore’s Credit Union, is promoting employee wellness this month with the launch of the MECU Diabetes Academy.
Diabetes Academy features a series of informational sessions focused on tips for living with and treating diabetes. The hour-long lunch and learn sessions will feature topics on how to read food labels for nutrient information, signs of low blood sugar, and information about the differences between the various treatments and medications available to diabetics. MECU said its employee wellness committee will also distribute healthy food to employees during the month of October.
“Diabetes is a condition affecting nearly 620,000 people in Maryland alone,” said John Hamilton, MECU President and CEO, who is particpating in the American Diabetes Association’s CEO Stopping Diabetes initiative and will be a Community Leadership Board member for the ADA of Maryland’s Chapter in 2018. “Hosting this Diabetes Academy is an activity I know will be beneficial for many of our employees and I’m grateful to be able to have the sessions in our offices to help spread the word.”
