EAST LANSING, Mich. — MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) and its charitable foundation, the Desk Drawer Fund, hosted a first-ever event at the CU’s headquarters in East Lansing.
More than 200 people attended the Desk Drawer Fund Annual Celebration, which featured food, musical entertainment, community partner booths, and formal remarks from Desk Drawer Fund officials, community partners, and MSUFCU leadership.
Founded in 2019, the Desk Drawer Fund focuses on five areas, or “pillars,” as it fulfills its mission to help create jobs, teach valuable skills, and improve the overall quality of life in communities. These pillars include arts and culture, empowering youth, financial education, fostering entrepreneurialism, and stable housing, according to MSUFCU.
“This was our first event to celebrate the incredible impact of the Desk Drawer Fund, a tradition we plan to continue for years to come,” said Samantha Willett, Desk Drawer Fund manager. “The evening was an occasion for us to come together to foster connections, celebrate achievements, and showcase the support that the Desk Drawer Fund provides to our community partners.”
Several donations from the Desk Drawer Fund were announced or highlighted, including:
- $30,000 to Michigan Women Forward.
- $55,000 to the Lansing SAVE program
- $500,000 to Child and Family Charities for its “Be the Light” capital campaign.
The Desk Drawer Fund board also recently selected Family Promise of West Michigan and Accelerate4KIDS in Detroit, to receive $10,000 and $9,000, respectively, as part of the fourth-quarter granting cycle.
“The Desk Drawer Fund was created to provide an avenue for our employees and members to give back to their communities. Their generosity directly supports the transformative work the Desk Drawer Fund provides to our nonprofit partners,” said April Clobes, MSUFCU president and CEO. “We’re proud of the collective impact we can make when we all come together.”
