LANSING, Mich. — CUNA and the Michigan League have named the 2022 recipients of the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award, Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award, and Desjardins Awards for Financial Education.
Two Michigan credit unions won awards at the state level: Genisys Credit Union and Extra Credit Union. Eighteen Michigan credit unions won awards at the state level.
“The League congratulates the Michigan winners of the 2022 CUNA awards,” said MCUL CEO Patty Corkery. “I am very proud of our state credit unions, all of which work tirelessly to find new ways to build financial health for our 5.87 million members. The many programs and services represented among this year’s winners is a great example of that commitment.”
National CUNA Award Winners
Dora Maxwell Award, First Place: Genisys Credit Union
Genisys was awarded first place in the Dora Maxwell Award category for the project One Kitchen, Unlimited Reach: Eliminating Homelessness with Genisys Credit Union & Lighthouse. With this project, Genisys donated to support renovating the Commercial Kitchen, volunteered to transition the Campus into an emergency shelter, and provided funds to stock the Commercial Kitchen. The credit union volunteered more than 140 hours, donated $60,000 in renovation funds and employees raised $8,000.
Louise Herring Award, Second Place: Extra Credit Union
Extra was awarded second place in the Louise Herring Award category for the project Believing in Second Chances. With this project, Extra created a suite of products specifically for members experiencing financial hardship: Extra Credit Checking, OnTrack Auto Loan, Extra Quick Loan and a secured Extra Credit Union Platinum Mastercard®. These products allow individuals to manage their finances, get through tough times, get to work to earn an income and more—all while rebuilding credit and working toward financial success.
