GERMANTOWN, Md.–Montgomery County Employees Federal Credit Union has announced its support for two Maryland Hispanic Achievement Scholarships, which were awarded at the County Executive’s Hispanic Gala. The two local college students receiving the scholarships are Gabriela Huaman, a student at the University of Maryland, and Hellen Huaman Vergara, who attends Carroll Community College.
More than 50 scholarships are presented at the gala to recent Maryland graduates or GED recipients planning to attend a Maryland college or university in 2018 and are in financial need. The annual event brings together elected officials, the business community, philanthropists, and the Hispanic community to support and promote post-secondary education opportunities for eligible students in Montgomery County. MC EFCU is in its fourth year of supporting the scholarship program.
“At MC EFCU, we continue to whole-heartedly invest in our community and we know there is no better investment we can make in our future than that of supporting young people who are advancing their education,” says Gregg Zolkiewicz, MC EFCU’s chief operations officer. “We applaud County Executive Leggett for creating this wonderful event to celebrate educational excellence and to ensure that more students in our community will be able to pursue their college dreams. We are proud to support this important cause.”
