MOBILE, Ala.–New Horizons Credit Union has earned the Military Saves Designation of Savings Excellence award for efforts in financial education stressing the importance of saving during Military Saves Month.
The honor is reserved for financial institutions that succeed in getting people to open or add to wealth-building accounts and take the pledge to save.
“The pandemic, economy, and world affairs are an unfortunate situation that is currently impacting military families and their finances,” the CU said. “The timing of Military Saves Month has helped to spearhead the conversation around saving during a national crisis and help service members and their families take action toward their savings plan. Military Saves Month, held in April, is an annual opportunity for the military community to assess their savings status and make a plan to start or increase saving, and for organizations like New Horizons Credit Union to support good savings behavior.”
“New Horizons Credit Union is honored to receive this award,” said CEO Edith Franklin. “Our community has a large Coast Guard presence as well as other armed services to whom we are truly grateful. We are proud to support National Military Saves Month and advocate financial literacy and saving.”
To further the savings initiative, New Horizons Credit Union said it partners with GreenPath Financial Wellness to offer free budgeting resources, webinars, and debt management tools designed to develop savings goals and build credit.
The National Military Saves program also offer consistent social media saving messages which New Horizons Credit Union was able to incorporate during the campaign period to encourage taking the pledge to save. Plus, New Horizons Credit Union offers a Horizons Heroes Account which offers money saving perks to our active military and all first responders. The Militarysaves.org link resides at NewHCU.org continually for anyone wishing to learn more and pledge to save.
