ATHENS, Ohio – In the spirit of giving this season, Ohio University Credit Union donated $30,000 to support charitable organizations.
OUCU donated $10,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio. According to Executive Director Kenneth Oehlers, the funds will be used to start the next home build in Nelsonville. Habitat for Humanity empowers people in our community to build and buy their own homes and assists those in need of home repairs.
Southeast Ohio Youth Monitoring, formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Ohio, received $10,000 to continue their work with area children. Their programs include Community Based Programming for kids 5-17 years old and the Youth in Leadership School Mentoring Program at designated schools in Athens, Vinton and Washington counties.
Ten-thousand dollars was split between the Ohio Credit Union Foundation and the National Credit Union Foundation. These foundations provide grants for disaster relief, financial literacy, and more. In 2014 OUCU received a $5,000 grant from the Ohio Credit Union Foundation to help students displaced by the W. Union Street fire.
“Our members make it possible for us to support our local community to keep it strong,” stated Ohio University Credit Union CEO Cory Corrigan. “These organizations work hard to make our community a better place to live,” he added.
