PENSACOLA, Fla.—PenAir Credit Union has presented the inaugural PenAir CAPE Award to Escambia County Fire Rescue Lt. Philip Hoffman and Firefighter Dale Coulter, recognizing their courage, authenticity, purpose and empathy following their rescue of a young boy caught in dangerous surf earlier this year.
The award was inspired by the firefighters' April rescue and a reunion with the child and his family less than 24 hours later during Superheroes Day at Studer Family Children's Hospital. PenAir said the experience prompted the creation of the annual recognition.
"The PenAir CAPE Award was created to recognize ordinary people who do extraordinary things for others," said Jay Wells, vice president of marketing and communications at PenAir Credit Union. "Lieutenant Hoffman and Firefighter Coulter are a powerful example of the impact one act of service can have on a family and a community."
PenAir established the award in partnership with Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation. The organizations said the annual honor will recognize individuals whose actions strengthen the community through courage, authenticity, purpose and empathy.
