RCU Staff Demonstrates 'The Power of an Hour'

MENOMONIE, Wis.--Royal Credit Union’s team members used their time at a recent corporate meeting held at UW-Stout to make a positive impact in the lives of others.  In addition to celebrating a successful 2014 and planning for the year ahead, RCU’s 540 team members participated in an initiative called “The Power of an Hour.” Prior to the meeting, RCU team members collected nearly $2,000 cash and donated thousands of items that were used for service projects benefiting over 25 area non-profit organizations.

During the meeting, RCU team members were assigned to one of 19 different projects including assembling toiletry baskets for homeless shelters, making fleece tie dog beds for humane associations, creating thank you cards for active duty military, packaging craft kits for after-school programs and many more. The projects were completed in one hour and benefited organizations that serve communities throughout RCU’s field of membership in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

“Our young professionals group contacted the organizations, created the projects and developed a list of needed supplies,” said Andrea Finn, Royal Credit Union Digital Marketing Specialist and President of Royal’s Young Professionals group. “We sent a call for donations to all RCU team members and their response was amazing. This truly was a corporate-wide effort and we are all so very proud to be impacting so many organizations.”

Benefiting organizations included Amery, Menomonie & Chippewa Falls Humane Societies, Angels in Waiting, Avery’s Blankets of Hope, Colby Library, Ronald McDonald House, Whitehall School District, Eden Prairie School District, Menomonie American Lutheran Nursing Home, Altoona Grace Edgewood, Eau Claire Area School District, Benjamin’s House Emergency Shelter, Northwood’s Homeless Shelter, Turning Point, Sojourner House, Bolton Refuge House, Cars for Neighbors, Impact Services, Gillette Children’s Hospital, Meals on Wheels of Eau Claire County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Wisconsin, Boys & Girls Club of Barron County, Whitehall Library, The Family Place, and Bridging.
