Record 3,300 Applicants Apply to Intern at Pentagon FCU

TYSONS, Va.,– A record 3,300-plus students applied for the opportunity to intern at PenFed, the nation’s second largest federal credit union. Attracting talent from top schools all over the country, 32 undergraduate and three graduate school students were selected to intern at PenFed’s Tysons headquarters and other PenFed locations in the Greater Washington, DC area. Several of the students are returning interns.

The interns surprised PenFed leaders attending their kick-off event with an unexpected donation of a portion of their first paychecks to the PenFed Foundation, demonstrating their inspiration from and shared beliefs in PenFed’s commitment to support charitable organizations and the communities in which it serves.

“The choices we make on a daily basis is what makes us successful,” PenFed President and CEO James Schenck said in his welcome remarks to the interns. “There is greatness in each of you,” he continued asserting his belief that every intern is going to make a positive impact for PenFed during their summer tenure. Schenck celebrated the diversity between the 18 different schools that were represented in the room, reminding the interns that they truly are “a team of teams.”

PenFed donates at least 2% of its earnings each year to nonprofits, with an emphasis on those that help wounded servicemen and women.
