RALEIGH, N.C.––SECU members who are new to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process or returning college students who need to complete the financial aid form are being offered help by their credit union. SECU is offering FAFSA completion assistance to members during normal business hours throughout November at no cost.
Credit union staff in all 265 branch locations will be available to answer questions and help students and their parents complete and electronically file the FAFSA for the 2019-2020 academic year. The form is a required document to be considered for all federal and most state financial aid for college, career school, or graduate school.
SECU has been offering members FAFSA support since 2009, in partnership with College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) and the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NCASFAA), who assist students with education and career planning, and applying and paying for college. T
he FAFSA provides a snapshot of the student’s and parents’ financial situation and must be completed each school year that the student wishes to apply for college financial aid, including scholarships, grants, work-study, and loans.
“State Employees’ Credit Union is a long-time supporter of education, committed to investing in the educational future of North Carolina’s youth,” said Krista Loew, SECU Vice President of IRA Services. “We value our partnership with CFNC and NCASFAA and feel very strongly about providing families with greater access to the educational and instructional resources that can help students get the financial support necessary to continue their education.”
