RALEIGH, N.C. – Representatives from State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) and the SECU Foundation were in New London, N.C. to celebrate the groundbreaking of SECU Veterans Hall, a dormitory for female cadets at the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (TCA) II in Stanly County.
SECU members via the SECU Foundation partnered with Tarheel ChalleNGe, Inc., providing a $500,000 grant for the construction of the new 60-bed facility in support of the Academy, a North Carolina National Guard-sponsored volunteer program for high school dropouts. SECU Board of Directors Chairman Jim Johnson presented the check to Tarheel ChalleNGe, Inc. on behalf of SECU members.
“We have been long-time supporters of the North Carolina National Guard – they are one of our core member groups,” said Johnson. “The Credit Union and SECU Foundation have partnered with the Guard on many beneficial initiatives, and Tarheel ChalleNGe provides another great collaboration. The Academy has an excellent reputation and proven track record for turning around at-risk youth. Cadets accepted into TCA’s program do so voluntarily, ready to learn and work hard to become productive citizens in their communities and we are happy to lend our support.”
