MORA, Minn.– SPIRE Credit Union recently hosted a dedication of heritage pieces to commemorate the legacy and history of Greater Minnesota Credit Union (GMCU), which merged with SPIRE in July 2014.
In attendance at the ceremony were former GMCU Board and Supervisory Committee members, several SPIRE senior managers, and other employees from the various branches. Historical items were collected and used to create this display, which celebrates the strength in community it built throughout its 79 years.
A group of SPIRE employees, formerly GMCU employees, collaborated on the heritage commemoration in the Mora office. A display will also be located in SPIRE’s Milaca, Isle, Elk River, Pine City and Ogilvie branches.
In 1935, the Co-Operators Credit Union was established in Mora. From its depression-era beginnings, it expanded into surrounding communities, growing into the flourishing financial institution of Greater Minnesota Credit Union. Today, operating as SPIRE Credit Union, their cooperative roots have only grown stronger with nearly 90,000 members.
“I am so proud of the work this team has done to honor the spirit of Greater Minnesota Credit Union,” says Dan Stoltz, SPIRE President & CEO. “We look forward to helping our communities grow and prosper well into the future!”
