ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–Sandia Laboratory FCU is celebrating its 75h anniversary.
Founded in 1948 by a group of 15 Sandia National Laboratory employees, the credit union was originally ocated in a small barracks building on Kirtland Air Force Base.
Today, SLFCU said its “driving purpose is to redefine its cooperative spirit to become an economic engine for communities” in the Southwest by:
- Delivering member-focused innovations that go beyond “banking as usual”
- Encouraging savings with modest opening balances
- Offrering flexible terms.
For example, SLFCU said it has introduced three new deposit products so far in 2023: the Power Money Market Account, the FLEX Account, and the MEGA Certificate.
“Today, SLFCU ranks as the second largest credit union in New Mexico by asset size, with more than $3.6 billion in assets,” SLFCU said. “In 2022, the Credit Union provided more than $1.7 billion in loans, a 13.8% increase from the previous year. SLFCU members earned more than $12.7 million in dividends in 2022.”
SLFCU noted it has more than 140,000 members, serving Sandia National Laboratories employees and their families, and the employees of 1,400 additional partner companies in New Mexico and California. The credit union has approximately 500 employees and was ranked by Albuquerque Business First as a Best Place to Work in New Mexico for 2023.
To mark its 75h anniversary, SLFCU said it is living the theme “We’re not getting comfortable; we’re just getting started.”
It has also celebrated by:
- Oct. 16-22, 2023. Member Appreciation Week with a “Great SLFCU Treasure Hunt” in Albuquerque, Farmington and Livermore.
- Oct. 17, 2023. SLFCU gave away lapel pins at all branches.
- Oct 18, 2023. SLFCU branches celebrated their actual anniversary with cookies and prizes given away at each branch.
- Oct. 21, 2023 - SLFCU will have an anniversary party at its Jefferson Branch with food, live music, a photo booth and more.
In the community, SLFCU will:
- Donate $7,500 to 75 Future Scientists through grants to local science classrooms.
- Donate a special installation at the River of Lights to run during the holidays.
