Stamford FCU Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

STAMFORD, CONN. – To kick off National Hispanic Heritage Month, Stamford FCU will be hosting an open house. Over the years, the credit union said it has intentionally built products and services – including a bilingual staff – to improve the financial lives of the Hispanic and Latino community in Stamford.

The Hispanic-American population in Connecticut is the 18th largest in the nation. The state has more Puerto Rican residents per capita than any other state. More than 29,000 Latinos call Stamford home.

As the region celebrates the heritage and culture of Hispanic-Americans, Stamford FCU CEO David Lucas said financial institutions could do a better job of connecting with them.

“There are many Hispanic-Americans who remain unbanked,” he said. “We listen very closely to what our members want when it comes to homeownership, car buying, overcoming debt and saving for the future. As we’ve become one of the most recognized financial institutions for our multicultural and multilingual communities, we’ve helped change attitudes in Stamford toward spending, saving and borrowing.”
